Georges River Football Club was founded in 1960 by Mr. Jack McGowan and three teams entered the local Shire competition in 1961. Georges River home ground was then situated at Canberra Street, Sylvania.
In 1962 the Club boasted eight teams, with the home ground becoming the newly developed Oyster Bay Oval.
By 1963 brick dressing sheds and kiosk facilities had been erected on the Ground.
The growth of the Club from those early days has been most significant, with teams entering all levels of competition, from every age group, through the All Age divisions as well as Ladies teams.
Ground improvements have continued to make Oyster Bay Oval one of the best in the Shire.
